1st Famliy Beach Day of the Summer

“Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air. ” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Joe made these incredible sand sculptures using a sand angel technique with his arms, he said one was of a Japanese man and then put a pointy hat on him….drawn with his index finger. His mind amazes, and surprises me daily. Tony body surfed, Nick wore goggles in the white wash, and Joe found two sand crabs. I saw a seal but I was the only one, which made me question my eyesight!

The Track

“If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking.” ~Buddhist Saying
I pooped um out yesterday so today I wasn’t that hard on them. Nick does push ups, suicides, and running at his soccer camp as well so I don’t want to be too boot camp mama on him!
Joe complained thee whole way to the track and then seemed to enjoy it….odd, but with Joe, I have learned not to question!

Mad mad world

Uncle Jimmy gave Tony a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble so we went tonight to redeem it. I also needed some workbooks for summer for the boys. Joe and Nick have been reading regularly but they have to do much, much more!

Tony got his first Mad magazine, don’t think he was impressed. I remembering laughing very hard at that!

Joe was camper of the day on his basketball team. The Coach said Joe was very quiet…..Joe said he was the loudest guy on the team(which I don’t doubt). Camper of the day gets to pick a free snack so joe didn’t speak up about his loudness….he just mowed on his Mike and Ike’s!
Then it was off to swim at the Y. Nick’s on the Novice swim team and Joe is up to his last lesson before he moves to the novice swim team.

Sprint half-way, walk back

So Nick was unprepared for a second year in a row to do Junior guards. That said, I told him, should he not do Junior guards, he would be expelling the same amount of energy as if he were in guards. And I’m a lady of my word! Today at the beach for an hour there was a warm up period of slow walking them started thirty five minutes of sprint and walk back to me….then a cool off period. I think they will embraces guards with open arms next year if it gets them away from their lunatic Mother!

Cool’n at the pool’n

“A photograph is like the recipe – a memory, the finished dish.” ~Carrie Latet
I know it’s the first day of summer vacation….but this is my favorite picture of the summer!

After 45 minutes on the elliptical, a 2 1/2 hour soccer camp, and a very late lunch….Nick said, “I’m sooooo hot. Do you think we can go to Aunties pool?”…..he asked and, blam!, it was so! After swimming Hubba took them to the school for an hour of down home football practice!…..These little boys shall sleep good tonight.

Sports Camps

“One day of practice is like one day of clean living. It doesn’t do you any good.” ~Abe Lemmons
And thus begins the first of four weeks of sports camps sprinkled throughout the summer. This great Church in Huntington Beach has sports camps all summer run by high school and college age students. The boys always say, “I don’t wanna do that camp….and then they have a blast!” This year they are doing football for two weeks, Joe is doing basketball for two weeks, and Nick is doing a week of soccer and a week of baseball. They rotate though centers focusing on a skill for an hour, then the break, and finally, for the last hour, they play a game. I snapped a quick picture at the end of the first day….they looked pooped!

JG-1st day

“Sometimes the path you’re on is not as important as the direction you’re heading.” ~Kevin Smith
JG started this very day. It is such a positive experience. Every year I’m thrilled that Tony wants to do it again. The empowerment of understanding and developing a relationship with a gigantic body¬†of water. The sense of mastery of a skill is invigorating. You can see the pride in Tony by the end of summer…’s just cool!
And so is begins…
