Pine Wood Derby

“Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” ~Will Rogers
It was Joe’s very first year and we had the talk the night before and on the way there…..you can’t always win, this is your first year, you designed your awesome car to look great…..doesn’t mean it will be fast. It’s fun to participate….blah, blah, blah.

He won. First in his group and third overall. I was more shocked than anyone…..when you look at his car the back fin thingie looks like it would drag wind…his design, Hubba and I didn’t say a thing.

Now Nick was just going for looks, and boy did his look good! He won third place out of his little group and was happiest with his participation ribbon for most creative. Love that kid!

Making Dessert

“You can say this for ready-mixes – the next generation isn’t going to have any trouble making pies exactly like mother used to make.” Earl Wilson
Joe was on Jell-O making duty today. I had him read the four step directions to making this Jiggily dessert. He took his job very serious!

All of a sudden the boys like Jell-O. It happened just like a car accident…..we were driving down the “my-boys-don’t-like- Jell-O Highway, then WHAM, I got blindsided by Jell-O lovers…Orange Jell-O seems to be the desired wiggly gelatin of choice. I find it odd and enjoyable….a part of childhood and what-not….!

flashmatic day

A day of not muchness. The boys bounced on the trampoline and played with the wooden guns they made with Hubba in the workshop. Nicks friend Jack came over….A boy down the street, Michael played basketball in the alley with Tony. And then everyone rounded the livingroom corner and vegged out in front of the brain sucker. I did enjoy reading with Joe today….Yesterday I went to the library and got books that I want him to read before he’s forced into big boy books! but mostly Joe

I came back from the library and there upon the counter in the kitchen were two avocados from our tree outside with a note. Man, I feel lucky…I feel lucky to have boys who think of me, and lucky that they have a big brother who would write a note so I would know who did such a nice thing! They all got crazy, mushy, Mama hugs….for the greenies and the note, too

Just Beachy

I can’t believe that four days ago I was in San Fran with rain-soaked underwear and bra……today was just a sunshiny, beachy, day with the boys and dogs, sand and sea, hubba and me!

seeing stars

“I have the worlds largest seashell collection. You may have seen it, I keep it spread out on beaches all over the world.”-Steven Wright

Took the boys on an outing to Seal Beach today and hit the seashell shop. Nick and Joe got “mood” things……a bracelet and a ring. Tony has decided to start saving his money for the candy store that he passes on his way home from Jr. Guards…..

Toot

That’s right I’m tooting Tony’s horn! He passed the Junior Lifeguard test tonight! Only two more times to try out, tonight, and March 1st. He has pretty much been sick all month so he hasn’t had an opportunity to try out until now! Beyond thrilled he made it. He loves being a part of that organization…..his current plans are to lifeguard at a pool somewhere in the world while he goes to college so….he has his eye on the prize people! …..proud of the fart for trying in an outdoor pool with the night being about 50 degrees!
