They laughed

“I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library.”

— Jorge Luis Borges

bamboozled

Tony, Nick, and Joe huddled around a book I got to read aloud with Joe and laughed themselves silly. What a great book for boys and visual learners in general. I was excited and went to the AR Finder site to see if there was a test so I could share this book with the school librarians, but it wasn’t there. bummer. Oh well, I guess it will be our little laughing secret for the next two weeks until the public library wants it back!

Baking Monday

housewife

Found on this website, simply recipes,  my moons ago. Nick said it was the best dessert he has ever had. I got a nod of approval from the other two as well!

Blondies Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup of butter, melted
  • 1 cup of tightly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup of butterscotch chips (chopped walnuts and chocolate chips are equally tasty)

METHOD

1 Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly butter and flour an 8X8 pan. Whisk together the melted butter and sugar in a bowl.

2 Add the egg and vanilla extract and whisk.

3 Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, mix it all together. Add the butterscotch chips or other mix-ins.

4 Pour into the pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool. Cut into squares and serve.

Makes 9 blondies.

16 leaf clover

“There is not a sprig of grass that shoots uninteresting to me.”  ~Thomas Jefferson

Now how will I ever get laundry done when I see stuff like this happening right outside my front door?! Joe, turns out, is looking for a four-leaf clover with his telescope. I set the towels down that I was about to put away and go grab my camera. A telescope, I’m laughing very hard. The lil dudes KILL me! As I’m walking out to get this shot, I here Nick tell Joe, “Hey Joe, I just found a 16 leaf clover” and Joe responds with, “your lucky Nick, man really, really lucky.” Good times.

Tony got caught up in the wave of clover finding only he decided to make his own luck by sculpting the leaves with his fingers. Ta-da three leaves into four!

Bugs

Bugs are cool

img_1829

Joe found ladybugs during Nick’s soccer practice yesterday and again at his game today. Today, before we left for the game I sent Joe to the backyard to fetch the bug house. Boy I thought what a great Mom I am, I remembered the bug house so he could collect more bugs….thats high level mom thinking, I might be a Mom genius….then

after we got home with a village of lady bugs I noticed a huge hole at the bottom of the bug collector/house and as I am noticing this I remember a lady telling me at the soccer field,  “your boy caught a stink bug”, now that didn’t bother me until I realized no stink bug came out when we released the lady bugs….. which means I have a stink bug in my car! I don’t feel like a Mom genius anymore, now I’m bugged out!

Butterfly

“How does one become a butterfly?” she asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.”

Nick said joyfully,  as he unscrewed the lid of the formally used Parmesan cheese container, “This is an experience of my lifetime.” Nick and Tony found the caterpillar and brought him in our home. By that night we had a chrysalis. About 8 days later we saw a beautiful morning cloak butterfly. Released  this morning.
