Costumed up!

Astronaut, Devil, and Killer Clown. Trick or trick was bellowed by my boys this year more than any other. We walked 16 blocks in search of the mighty candy. The boys ended the night with heavy pillowcases, sore feet, and the desire to eat all their treasure in one sitting(they got two each). We started the night trick or treating with Jack and two girls from 2nd grade who were waiting for a third girl plus Tony’s friend Ashe and we were waiting for another friend, Evan…..it was too many so we split early and we ended up with just Ashe, Evan our kids and Uncle Jimmy. Stopped by Nana’s to say Hi to Auntie who was handing out candy and Thank her for the costumes.

Carving

Silly Carving

Serious carving

scary carving

We had a happy house full. Auntie came. Uncle Chris joined us (he just got back from two months in Scotland). Julie from the scrapbook store and Uncle Jimmy. Julie brought sweet treats for dessert cupcakes and a homemade snickers bars(yum). We listened to spooky halloween music and watched the movie Hocus Pocus when it was all over. It was a nice relaxing carving event. …..then I started on the getting together of crafts for the halloween parties(until 1am) Julie stayed and helped me greatly!

Handhelds, temples and a spooky tree

Tony’s teacher taught a combo 4/5 last year and I think for that reason he had handheld computers. This year he’s teaching only fourth graders but they are getting to use the handhelds that are usually reserved for 5th graders. Tony is stoked! A new electronic devise AND there are a couple of games on it as well! (Brothers are a little jealous)

Because Nick was a little jealous he was the first to get to do a fall craft I had planned. This is Nick’s spooky tree. Watered down acrylic paint a small brush and a straw. It’s not done but it looks pretty cool. I found the idea on a blog and jumped on it!

Joe had lego class today after school. He said they built temples, My brain went to Mormon Temples which are pretty, but he started talking about whips so I think he means Indiana Jones like temples. Either way, he had a good day playing legos!

Ms. Johnson

Tuesday is volunteer day, and I love volunteering at the library. Ms. Johnson is wonderful to listening to and talk with. It’s nice to have one on one interaction with kids exploring the library….. It’s just all good. Except, well, non fiction is Dewey decimal, and I have trouble reshelving that section. the library in general, puts me in a good mood. Good moods makes things gooder(hee, hee)

The “B’s”

Baking Monday has been brought to you this week by the letter B. See…..there was Buttermilk, Butter, Bananas, and a recipe called the  “Best ever Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting“.

Check it out at recipezaar!

1¼ hours | 15 min prep

SERVES 16 , 1 9×13 pan

  • 1 1/2 cups bananas, mashed, ripe
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 1/8 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cups icing sugar

Garnish

  • chopped walnuts
  1. Preheat oven to 275°.
  2. Grease and flour a 9 x 13 pan.
  3. In a small bowl, mix mashed banana with the lemon juice; set aside.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  5. In a large bowl, cream 3/4 cup butter and 2 1/8 cups sugar until light and fluffy.
  6. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in 2 tsp vanilla.
  7. Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
  8. Stir in banana mixture.
  9. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake in preheated oven for one hour or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  10. Remove from oven and place directly into the freezer for 45 minutes. This will make the cake very moist.
  11. For the frosting, cream the butter and cream cheese until smooth.
  12. Beat in 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  13. Add icing sugar and beat on low speed until combined, then on high speed until frosting is smooth.
  14. Spread on cooled cake.
  15. Sprinkle chopped walnuts over top of the frosting, if desired.

housework

It seems I’ve went a little Norma Rae on the household duties, see I don’t like the unfair wages, the fact that I clean it and everyone in the house dirties it again, it’s boring, and unfun.

Spider fart

……So after a long day, a night of weird dreams, which I am blaming on the cotton candy machine directly across from the booth I was working, I think I inhaled so much cotton candy sugar dust, I got high. Anywho, I woke up in the middle of the night to Nick cuddled up next to me, seems he convinced himself a spider was trying to enter his mouth while he was sleeping.

fast forward 3 hours and it’s time for Nick and I to get up, I stretch and a fart comes out of my toe….odd, but it’s never to late to join the circus….turns out my toe didn’t learn to fart in the middle of the night, before Tony left with Dad for an early soccer game he left a fart machine at the foot of my bed and when I stretched, bam. Spiders, farts, cotton candy high, and you thought I lived a boring predictable life!
